NEWCASTLE MAZE-O CHAMPS and club social.

DATE: Sunday 26 May 2024
LOCATION: Brickworks Park (Wallsend)

IT IS IMPORTANT YOU READ THE EVENT FORMAT/RULES DOCUMENT

DIRECTIONS: access the park from the bottom of Iranda Grove, Wallsend.
PARKING: park in Iranda Grove or Birchgrove Ave. Please park efficiently and consider locals and other park users.
ASSEMBLY: Adjacent to the BBQ shelters in the park.

TIMETABLE:
Qualifying: 9:30 - 10:30
Knockouts: 11:00 - 12:00
General access: after knockouts
With the exception of the commencement of the qualification, session times will be flexible pending entry numbers.

WARMUP/COOL DOWN OPTION
We are planning to offer a separate 1-1.5 km line course as either a warm-up before or a cool-down after your maze run. This will be available at all times but please do not miss your allocated finals start if you qualify.

THE MAZE:
• Based on an 8 X 7 grid pattern
• Grid squares are 2x2 m
• The maze has more than one entry/exit
• Simple construction of ground based tapes with some risers to restrict corner cutting
• Some sample maze photos can be found via link
• The configuration will be altered for the finals and general use sessions.

THE MAP
• Roughly A5 in size
• Laminated to facilitate reuse during the event.
* Proportionally drawn to an unstated large scale.
* No contours (it's flat)
• The Open class qualifying course map will be double sided featuring a map flip.
• The line course will be A5 with a 1:4000 scale.

MASTERS WOMEN 60 and over
OPEN MEN
MASTERS MEN 60 and over
Classes may be combined at the discretion of the organiser if numbers are considered insufficient.

FEES
Seniors $10
Juniors $5
Non-members add $3
First-timers: Senior $5, Juniors free

CONTROL DESCRIPTIONS: Maze orienteering courses have no control descriptions. The control code is printed on the map adjacent to the control sequence number. eg 3-117

SOCIAL: Take advantage of shorter run times to socialize and connect with fellow club members! Why not bring some drinks and perhaps a plate of finger-food style goodies to share. There are BBQs available should you wish to cook your lunch.

FACILITIES: Drinking Water, Toilets, Playground and BBQs

ASSISTANCE REQUIRED: volunteers assisting with packup would be greatly appreciated. It's a bit of a carry to the van from the event arena. Please contact the organiser if you can assist.

RESTRICTIONS: despite this being a public area the ONSW rule of No fires, No Smoking and No Dog still applies when attending this event.
