The strongest ever field for an orienteering event in Sydney battled it out over and under Cockatoo Island. At the end of the day, it was a win for the seagulls.

In the women's A grade Tove Alexandersson, (four-time silver medallist in foot orienteering world champs, world champion in Ski-O, no Big Foot Sprints record)  beat the planner and cracked the 12 minute winning time to clock 11:28. Fellow Swedish team-mate Karolin Ohlsson placed second, over a minute behind. Karolin is another world-top 30 ranked sprint orienteer and was fairly comfortably second in front of a field packed with European elites, although Big Foot's Mike Burton managed to win the Men's B grade race finishing 7 seconds behind Karolin on the same course.

In the men's A grade Christian Tingström was exepected to follow up on his great Big Foot Sprints form and he did well placing 5th, but he was behind a procession of the worlds top sprint orienteers - top 3 were: Gustav Bergman (Relay world champion in 2014), Czech Jan Prochazka (Relay world champion in 2012, not the screen-writer of Ucho), Gernot Kerschbaumer (Austria's best sprint orienteer - with only a little adjustment, his passport could make him eligible for Oceania medals).
